Bio

As someone passionate about research and education, I am hoping to provide tutoring services to help students achieve their academic goals and fully grasp the concepts they are learning. I am a PhD Candidate in Criminology and Criminal Justice. I am an experienced Research Professional with several publications in peer-reviewed academic journals.

Areas that I can assist in are criminology/criminal justice, sociology, writing/editing, reading, SPSS statistical analysis, and study skills....

I am a PhD Candidate in Criminology and Criminal Justice. I am an experienced Research Professional with several publications in peer-reviewed academic journals.

I have 6 years of experience tutoring middle and high-school-aged children in vocabulary, reading, and test prep. I have been teaching at the university level (introductory and high-level courses) for the last three years. Courses I have taught are Intro to the Criminal Justice System, Incarceration and Punishment, Race, Crime, and Justice, and Social Research Methods.

I believe that supporting and guiding the learning process of others not only benefits the student but benefits the teacher/tutor as well. I am able to explain the concepts of pre-algebra to help students understand the how and why of the subject, which is often the reason many students have issues in this area. Math was always my strong suit in school and I believe that learning the subject can be easy if broken down and explained properly.

I have graduate level experience in Advanced Statistical Analysis with SPSS. I work with SPSS on a regular basis and can provide help with measurement concepts, analytical tests (i.e. t-tests, regression, ANOVA, chi-square and other types of these multivariate tests) and interpretation of results.

In my master's program as teaching assistant, I tutored many undergraduates in test prep. I have also created study guides for students and offered guidance in the best ways to retain information. Many of my study skill prep includes helping students fully understand the concept and help them relate concepts to the real world so that information sticks. Pedagogy also become a part of my tutoring as a method of effectively retaining information.
