Hello! My name is Sarah, and I am in my 10th year of teaching. I am currently a special education teacher for learners struggling in algebra, but I have 5 years of experiencing working with middle school students (pre-alg and reading/comprehension/decoding). I also have experience working with students with ADHD, Autism, Specific Learning Disability, Dyslexia, and Intellectual Disabilities. I hold a master's degree in special education from Regent University.

During my one-on-one lessons I focus on breaking topics down into more manageable pieces. For example, in math, many students get overwhelmed and have no idea where to begin or have difficulty applying what was just learned. I find that using steps, helps students maintain focus, especially students with ADHD and/or a specific learning disability. For students who struggle with comprehension, I share strategies to help with distinguishing the main idea from details, making inferences, recognizing text structure, and identifying the topic. Note-taking is huge when it comes to comprehension and many students have no idea of what notes to even take, when trying to comprehend lengthy passages.
I look forward to working with you and your child, and I can't wait to see the "light bulb" go off when they finally "get it."
