Hi, I’m Maren!
I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree at Clemson University. I was born in Roanoke, Virginia, and raised in Virginia Beach. I graduated in the top 10% of my high school class and earned a 730 on the SAT Reading & Writing section. My academic background, combined with my strong communication skills, has shaped my passion for helping students build confidence in reading and writing.
I have four years of experience working with children from pre-K through elementary school as an Assistant Counselor for a privately contracted summer childcare program that operated out of Cape Henry Collegiate and Norfolk Academy. In this role, I worked closely with students in both group and one-on-one settings, supporting early literacy development, reading comprehension, and foundational writing skills. This experience taught me how to adapt quickly to different learning needs and create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging with material.
My teaching approach is centered around making learning both effective and enjoyable. I prioritize creating a comfortable space where students feel confident expressing themselves, as hesitation is often mistaken for a lack of understanding. I tailor each session to the student’s individual learning style; for example, incorporating visuals, storytelling, or interactive activities for more creative learners. I also strongly emphasize positive reinforcement, because building confidence is essential for long-term academic success. My goal is not only to improve skills, but to help students develop a genuine sense of confidence and enjoyment in literacy.
I look forward to working with students and families to create an encouraging, personalized learning experience that supports both academic growth and a lifelong appreciation for reading and writing.
