I hold a Master of Science in Telecommunications from George Mason University. My undergraduate work was in both Computer Science and Education.

Overall, I have four years of experience in college teaching of Information Technology, three years experience in a tutoring center for college-level student-athletes in history, math, statistics, English, and computer science a one-on-one setting, and three years experience with one-on-one and small group private tutoring and corporate training. I have worked with students with a variety of disabilities - including ADHD, autism, and hearing impairments. In addition, I have worked with a variety of skill levels and learning styles and I have the ability to adapt my teaching to techniques that work best for you!

I also have an art background. I have several years of formal education in art and I've taught photography, stop-motion animation animation, and color theory to junior high school students. This, combined with my Information Technology/Computer Science background, creates an ideal combination for teaching multimedia web development. Although I certainly also enjoy working with general computer problems as well.

I am primarily a tutor for web development and other computer-related topics and give priority to requests in those areas. I have obtained approval in other subject areas because I have tutored a variety of fields and students with difficulty in one subject area often have problems in related areas. For example, a student that is learning to draw vector objects might also need to refresh basic math skills or a student with computer programming difficulties might need to review logic or spelling. I am, however, open to inquiries in all of my approved subject areas and my past college teaching and tutoring experience has given me a unique ability to identify patterns in a student's thought process that result in repeated mistakes. I also have a strong ability to help students identify learning objectives in a given course and interpret instruct

An Amazing Teacher

She is a really great tutor. I took her for my philosophy course, and I was not interested in philosophy at all. But, she made it very easy to understand, and she likes to make sure her students comprehend the material as easy as possible. She is also very very very patient with her students: she can say things over and over again which is not all tutors tend to do. If you want to succeed in your classes, take her immediately. She will guide you to the right path for success.

Awesome Teacher/Tutor

She is more like a teacher/tutor. She tutors with my son. Sometimes he can be off-task. He is also learning how to communicate effectively. As he learns and progress, she is patient and kind. She is also very thorough and understands the instructional content. I highly recommend her!!

So helpful!

Shelly has been a great find for my son who is taking a course at NOVA. He is having to take it for the second time and now with Shelly he is doing so much better and has confidence again in the class. I wish we had found her sooner last semester.

Shelley was very patient.

Shelley worked with me on my coursework and made a very helpful suggestion that I would not have thought of. I am looking forward to working with her again on my current course, Intermediate Algebra and also on College Algebra.

Great Tutor

Shelley and I went over a Dreamweaver assignment that I had fallen behind on. She is a great tutor but also very down to earth and is able to explain things in the simplest terms. I will definitely be using Shelley again for tutoring services.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Shelley was able to help me relearn/teach me what I was supposed to have known in my year long high school math class within two weeks. She always came to out lessons prepared with work sheets, and a great attitude. Whenever there was a question I had that she could not answer on the spot, she would either text or tell me the solution with an explanation of why it worked. Thank you Shelley!

Shelley certainly knows her material. She is helping my daughter with her accounting class. It is so nice seeing my daughter leave Shelley with a smile on her face as she gets more and more comfortable with the material. I'm so glad we found her.
