Hello potential students and your parents. I am a granddad in my last year (2025-2026) of high school teaching. In my almost 80 years, I have lived and worked in the USA and in two European and three Asian countries. I served as a U.S. Army officer, a U.S. State Department Foreign Service Officer, a men's clothing salesman, a Chamber of Commerce President, and I have taught elementary, middle, high school, and adult students.
Here at my high school in Virginia, I have taught World History and several math courses. I also have helped teach Science, English, PE, and German courses here. Ich spreche bisschen Deutsch pero yo hablo Español solo un poco. My Virginia Professional Teaching License, good through the summer of 2031, is endorsed for Government, History and Social Studies, General Science, Physics, and Mathematics. I have five college degrees: a Bachelor's degree focused primarily on engineering subjects, Master's degrees in Education, History, and National Security Studies, and an EdD in Education.
During my high school teaching time, I have informally tutored students before and after school. In these 1-on-1 settings, I let the student take the lead. I see my tutoring role as helping the student understand what s/he needs to understand. Because of my wide experience, I often have brought into my tutoring helpful examples and viewpoints with which students are not yet familiar.
My Wyzant tutoring will be part time and online via Zoom or Google Meet. If you do not understand a little bit of a subject, if some things that could become clearer with one or a few hours of tutoring, I might be a good tutor for you.
I would expect you to bring to a tutoring session the materials you have been given to learn. If we find those materials to be insufficient, then I will find or develop additional materials for you.
