In addition to those areas I am very well verses in history and geography. History was my was college minor. While I was a student at Purdue the Head of the History Department asked me to be a student in his pilot class in political extremism. Thanks to military, defense contracting, vacations I have been in over 40 nations on three continents. I learned a great deal about the world outside the class room.

I've been told I'm outgoing, friendly, and articulate.

Business

Business

I am qualified to tutor business because of a combination of education and work experience. My college education includes three levels of accounting, classes in finance, marketing, business statistics and business law. I taught accounting and other business subject for two years at a private business college. I am experienced in a variety of business types. My work experience includes over a decade of procurement in a manufacturing environment and two years of contract management (my assigned contracts exceeded $50 million) at a multi-billion dollar construction site. I was twice the sole purchasing person during a business start-up. (One succeeded and one failed.) I was a department manager twice. I worked in my family’s retail business for five years. It is still in business after over thirty years and made my brother a balance sheet millionaire. In addition to that experience, as a student, I worked in fast food restaurants and services stations. Been dealing with the public since I was 14 years old.
Career Development

Career Development

I am qualified to tutor Career Development due to several aspects of my work and life experiences. I worked for two years as an Outplacement Consultant. In that capacity, I met one-on-one with at least twenty clients and discussed with them their career aspirations and how well they were prepared to follow their dreams. Another part of the job was to help them identify industries that could enable them to meet their goals. Never told them what to do. I listened and made suggestions. As a junior Army officer I counseled scores of enlisted men on their educational path and gave suggestions for transitioning from the Army to the civilian world. As a senior Army officer I did the same for junior officers. I am intimately aware of the careers of three brothers and some close friends. Of my brothers, I have two that work for Purdue University in Indiana. One brother has a PhD and is an associate professor and the other fixes the university heating and cooling systems. My third brother created his own business and is now a balance sheet millionaire. All are content and, by most standards, successful. Finally, I have my own experience in the world of work. In addition to my military experience, I worked in retail, manufacturing, and construction industries. Since I graduated from college forty years ago I have had times when my master’s degree was a hindrance rather that a positive. On the other hand, I have had times it was a requirement for the job. No one can tell a person what they must do with their life to be a success. One reason is that success for one, is not success for another. But, I can provide objective input to students’ subjective desires and help guide them to better choices.
