Hi! My name is Sarah! I have obtained my TESOL Certificate from Northern Virginia Community College, and am currently volunteering as a conversational tutor with Fairfax County Public Library. I am passionate about teaching English as a Second Language. I volunteered with an ESL program from 2011-2015, after which I enrolled in the certificate program. I love meeting people from different cultures and using my knowledge and education to help them with their English skills.
My education also includes an undergraduate degree in French and English and a Master's degree in French. Over the years, I have worked as a tutor and a classroom teacher. One of my greatest strengths is being able to communicate my enjoyment and fascination with the English language to others. I especially enjoy tutoring because it is so flexible- you can tailor the lesson to the needs and interests of your individual student in a way that is not possible with a large group. Regarding teaching methods, I prefer a casual, conversation-based atmosphere, with a focus on grammar when necessary. Using news items and magazine articles to encourage discussion, as well as accessing online resources are some of my favorite methods of teaching. I can't wait to meet you and begin the exciting process of helping you master English!
