I'm Millie! I'm an incoming freshman at Caltech, where I plan to major in physics, and a recent graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. I have over five years of tutoring and teaching experience in mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics, and SAT preparation.
I've worked with middle and high school students both one-on-one and in groups. Through Schoolhouse, I've tutored students individually and led multi-week SAT Bootcamps, and through my school's astronomy competition club, I regularly taught physics and mathematics to groups of 20+ students. I also work as an Explainer at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, where I communicate scientific concepts to visitors with a wide range of ages and backgrounds. These experiences have taught me how to adapt my explanations to each student's background, learning style, and confidence level.
My goal as a tutor is not just to help students arrive at the correct answer, but to help them become more confident approaching unfamiliar problems independently. I’ve found that students build this confidence best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through challenges. To achieve this, I select practice problems based on each student’s needs, giving them opportunities to reason through challenging questions while I provide guidance and support as needed.
I'm comfortable tutoring mathematics through multivariable calculus and linear algebra; high school and AP Physics; general and AP Chemistry; AP Statistics; and SAT Math and Reading/Writing. I earned 5s on AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism, and AP Chemistry, as well as a 790 SAT Math score, 770 SAT Reading and Writing score, and a perfect PSAT/NMSQT score.
Whether you're preparing for an exam, working through a challenging course, or improving your SAT score, I'd love to help you become a more confident and independent problem solver!
