Language learning works best with a teacher who has done this work at scale. I have over 20 years teaching English and ESOL to students ranging from elementary schoolers to working adults. Here's what I bring to a lesson:
For elementary students: I've taught corrective reading programs for young learners with learning disabilities and have a background as a literacy instruction specialist. I break reading and language skills into steps that help build confidence.
For adult ESL and career-focused learners: I've coached immigrant professionals on U.S. workplace communication and helped displaced adults build English skills for daily life and job advancement.
For TOEFL and college-bound students: I hold a PhD in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy and have trained future teachers in second language instruction at Michigan State University. I understand both the mechanics of second language learning and the use of standardized tests assessing it, both at P-12 and college levels.
I speak English, Bengali, and Hindi, and was recognized with the Outstanding Instructor Award at the English Empower Center in 2022 and 2023. Whether you're a parent looking for reading support, an adult building career-ready English, or a student prepping for TOEFL, I'll build a plan around where you are and what you need to reach your goal.

As a Language Coach and Career Counselor at Upwardly Global, I advise newly arrived immigrant professionals on navigating the U.S. job market and coach them through the nuances of American workplace communication and professional credentialing, resulting in increased placement rates in professional-track roles. At the English Empowerment Center, I worked directly with employers in hospitality, construction, and education to align ESOL instruction with real industry needs, building a pipeline for immigrant professionals entering the workforce. My current role teaching ESOL for Fairfax County Public Schools' Adult and Community Education program focuses on building English proficiency specifically for career advancement and community integration among displaced populations. I hold a PhD in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy and bring a structured, assessment-driven approach to helping adults build the language and communication skills employers actually expect.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a Literacy Instruction Specialist designing learner-centered reading interventions for early elementary students, including those with learning disabilities, in a corrective reading program. Later in my career in accreditation, I helped facilitate development of CAEP's 2018 K-6 Elementary Teacher Preparation Standards and went on to train the teachers who use them, giving me a rare view into both how elementary reading and language instruction should work and how it's actually taught in classrooms nationwide. Through my ongoing work with Fairfax County Public Schools, I stay directly connected to instructional practice, applying research-backed methods for building foundational reading and language skills in young learners. I hold a PhD in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy and bring a diagnostic, standards-informed approach to helping K-6 students build strong reading fundamentals.

ESL/ESOL

I've spent over 20 years teaching English and ESOL to students ranging from elementary schoolers to working adults, including 14 years at the English Empowerment Center, where I developed placement testing and instruction for immigrant learners, and my current role teaching ESOL for Fairfax County Public Schools' Adult and Community Education program.
