Greetings!

I am an undergraduate at GMU pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Music with significant coursework in Math, Statistics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. I have a lot of experience with tutoring K-12 students in Math, especially 6-12 graders. I graduated from Lake Braddock Secondary School in 2019, where I was the President of the Math Honor Society and had been tutoring some of my peers in Algebra and Precalculus for 2 years. In my junior year, I took AP Calculus BC and earned a 5 on the exam. My senior year, I earned a 4 on the AP Chemistry exam.

After graduation, I worked at Mathnasium for 2 summers, where I learned how to adjust my style of teaching to a virtual mode during the pandemic. This experience demonstrates my ability to give quality math education online.

I have also worked at Kumon as a tutor. One of Kumon’s strengths is the emphasis on accuracy of fundamental math skills and study skills as building blocks for further education. In my practice, I absorb the strengths from both curriculums into my current practice as a private independent tutor in math. I also was selected by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) to serve as an in-school high impact tutor, and all of my current students are from FCPS.

My approach to tutoring is to care for the whole student, not just the skills that they need to know. I break down concepts into small, manageable chunks so that my students can understand the main ideas first. I emphasize low-stakes, no pressure tutoring because I recognize that some students typically are not planning to pursue careers in STEM, while others may be neurodivergent or have other learning styles that are negatively impacted by emphasizing time in grasping concepts. My goal is to get to know each of my students well so that I can help them succeed academically in a stress free, inclusive environment. If that sounds right for you, please feel to reach out!
