Hi, thanks for reading this bio! I’m a former pilot and media producer with a passion for history and political science. I graduated from the University of Missouri with two degrees, one in Broadcast Journalism and another in Political Science. I worked for over ten years in media of all kinds, but mostly video production, before pursuing my passion for flying. I was a pilot and then worked in aviation logistics during which I received an MBA from Georgetown University.
My father was a career US Army officer and I grew up all over the world, from Asia to Europe. I speak three languages and have traveled on every continent except Antarctica. For this reason, I think my strengths as a tutor are an ability to connect with students from all backgrounds, and a wide-ranging intellectual base of experience. I have always had a passion for understanding where we have been and what our past can say as a signpost towards our future. History and Political Science both are disciplines which reward intellectual agility and I hope to give a personalized and pedagogically disciplined tutoring experience.
I have experience in all forms of writing, from creative forms to business cases. I have sold a feature movie screenplay and presented proposals for million-dollar contracts. I believe my background gives me an ability to explain and tutor English in a way which can be customized for any students particular requirements.
I am not just an academic and amateur historian through reading and study, but have experienced close proximity to world events. I was in Berlin in 1990, right after the wall fell, and visited Moscow in 1992, immediately after the coup attempt. I was in Lahore, Pakistan, when Bhutto was tragically assassinated and travelled to Haiti to assist in the earthquake relief effort. History to me is not stale and settled, it is a living, breathing, part of our collective life, whose echoes rebound and resound in any number of ways.
