Hey there! My name is Alan, and I'm a student and cadet at Virginia Tech. After studying engineering and computer science for four semesters, I realized I was spread too thin between my academics and other leadership obligations. I switched to Business IT with a concentration in Operations Supply-Chain Management with a minor in Leadership. The experience has given me exposure to all sorts of STEM and non-STEM courses including Calculus 1-3, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, Statistics, Chemistry, Kinematics, Electromagnetism & Waves, Intermediate Java & Python, Psychology, Marketing, Accounting, Law, and more. While changing majors is typically perceived as an unwanted challenge, I couldn't be happier with the path that I have taken!
I have a wide variety of tutoring experience under my belt, ranging from groups of peers who've taken classes with to one-on-one elementary schoolers with severe trouble with the learning pace children are expected to pick up. Seldom have I sought out the opportunity to help tutor others, rather the opportunity always seems to present itself to me. I have often found that most students, no matter their age, that seem to struggle with concepts taught in school actually know it better than they thought. Most of the time, misunderstanding comes from a small gap in knowledge that teachers fail to recognize because they won't sit down with students and really listen to what they're saying. I find that really analyzing the thought process that a student goes through is what's necessary for academic success in the long run. Ultimately, I want my students to become independent problem solvers that can apply lessons and methods I teach to any subject in any form of schooling they go through.
While my schedule during the semester can be sporadic and busy, I will make every effort to reply within 24 hours. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a time to meet!
