I have 3 kids between 16-20yrs old, each with very different approaches to academics and styles of learning.

What I love most about the learning process is when students not only learn content but can begin to articulate their learning process, make choices about how they explore learning, and know their value in a learning environment. I look forward to helping you learn about both math and yourself!

I've been teaching AP Stats for over 15 years. I am the accuracy editor for a major AP Stats textbook and worked with College Board on the latest course redesign. In fact, if you search "AP Statistics Course and Exam Description", go to the document on the CB website and scroll down a couple of pages to "Acknowledgements," you will see my name listed. I was recruited for the project because of my teaching style and because my students did better on the AP Stats exam than they did compared to their other AP exams! I have never excluded any student from taking the course (although I will advise against, if appropriate) and they pass the exam at a rate of 85% (compared to 57% nationally). If you are here and coming to me, that means you are motivated. I'm confident you can succeed!

I have taught Algebra and Geometry to the most vulnerable students at the schools in which I have taught. Teaching these students, I've learned that not only must I be an expert on content but also on learning in general. I have adapted and developed many strategies and techniques supported by Mind-Brain-Education research and regularly attend conferences on learning. This year, I am serving as a group leader for the CTTL Summer Academy at St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, MD, directed by the authors of "Neuroteach."

I can help you pass. I can also help you learn how to learn so that you no longer need my or any other services. I'm inter

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

This is course for which I've taught a standard curriculum and developed my own, adopted at 3 schools. My students learn the connections and reasoning supporting Algebra by understanding not just "what" to do but "why" and "what it means." Learning math as a language in which each symbol has meaning creates an understanding that will transfer to new and applied learning in subsequent courses.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra 2 to the most vulnerable students, those who often didn't have a strong Algebra 1 back ground. I can help find the cracks in your math foundation and propel you to success in this course and the next!
Geometry

Geometry

I have taught a standard curriculum in Geometry and developed my own which had been adopted at 3 previous schools. An understanding of Geometry can be achieved with logic, hands-on construction, and/or algebra-based. I'll look to find both your strength in learning and address what you need to do to thrive in your course! You can do this! I can help!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Every year for 24 years, I taught Pre-Algebra to the most vulnerable students who have struggled with math. Often, they found themselves loving math class and prepared to excel in Algebra 1 (sometimes Honors!) the next year.
Probability

Probability

Probability as a subset of AP Statistics and standard algebra curriculum is essentially understanding basic counting principles and identifying a few archetype problems. I've taught AP Stats for 15 years and was invited to develop the Course/Exam Description by College Board because of how successful my students were on the exam compared to their results on other AP Exams. The world is shifting from calculus to probability based understanding! I can help you catch up, get ahead, or stay ahead as you need!
Statistics

Statistics

I was 1 of 8 teachers flown by College Board to NYC to develop the Course Exam Description for AP Statistics recent upgrade. I was chosen because of how well my students did on the exam compared to their results on other AP exams. I've been an AP Exam grader for 13 years, and have served as a table leader and featured presenter for Best Practices. I am an accuracy editor for the 6th edition of Stats: Modeling the World.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I've taught trig every year as part of Geometry and a segway to Algebra 2. I can help you form the foundation to the applications!

Exceptional AP Exam Support

Adam was absolutely fantastic during that critical month before the AP Exam. My son had multiple sessions with him every week, and Adam always came prepared with relevant materials to work through together. His positive attitude made the sessions enjoyable, and he explained even the toughest concepts in a way that just clicked for him. The feedback he provided after each session was super helpful, and booking lessons with him was always very easy. Thanks to Adam's guidance, my son walked into the exam feeling confident and well-prepared to score a 5. We couldn't have asked for a better tutor for this final stretch!
