Francis is in his second semester as a math major at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Recently he has passed Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, and AP Calculus BC with flying colors. He has accepted a position as a Learning Assistant for the Spring 2026 semester for several sections of Linear Algebra, which entails assisting students with in-class assignments, and answering any questions they may have. He also has unofficial experience similarly answering questions and assisting in several precalculus and calculus classes as requested by his AP calculus teacher during his senior year of high school.
Francis is very enthusiastic about mathematics and is very excited about the opportunity to assist middle school, high school, and college students in improving their grades and their understanding of a plethora of complex math topics. He believes that the best way to learn and internalize these topics is through a combination of conceptual understanding (the "why", underlying relationships and ideas) and procedural understanding (the "how", steps to solve problems). Francis believes that oftentimes one of these is overly emphasized at the detriment of the other. His approach in tutoring will involve analyzing where the student is in either category and fill in gaps. This may look like explaining the core ideas and how they relate to the process of solving a problem and connecting other ideas, or working with the student through several example problems, or a combination of both.
