As a first-generation immigrant, I gained admission into an allopathic medical school on my first try. Getting to where I am today wasn't easy; I struggled in STEM courses early on. My grit, determination and resilience led me to earning a near-perfect undergraduate GPA and a competitive MCAT score. My experience as a student who has known what it is like to academically struggle sets me apart from other tutors because it has given me personal insights on what does and doesn't work.

I have 900+ hours of experience tutoring college students in biology and chemistry courses. I also have 300+ hours of experience helping students find their authentic voices to create genuine and compelling narratives. I have helped prospective medical students with their personal statements, secondary essays, and AMCAS applications. I have helped high school students with their personal essays for the Common App and the UC system. Many of my former students have been accepted to their dream institutions (including top-10 medical schools).

Based on my extensive experience tutoring students, I have internalized that effective teaching relies on knowledge, adaptability, and enthusiasm. For Biology and Chemistry, I help with content knowledge and test-taking skills/strategies. I rely mainly on active recall teaching methods since it maximizes student understanding and retention of knowledge. For Essay Editing, I help with each step of the writing process including brainstorming ideas, creating an outline, and finalizing grammar prior to final submission. I like to have students send me drafts of their essays to review prior to each session. This helps facilitate an engaging and productive session where the student can receive constructive feedback live. It also helps them minimize any post-session writer’s block since they will have a clear understanding of next steps.
