Hi, I'm Sunauz! As a college student, I worked for 3 years as a Supplemental Instruction Leader, where I led study sessions in biology to college students while attending all lectures in order to best understand the material. I led my sessions by encouraging students to interact in groups of typically 5-15 students, using roles (such as Presenter, Scribe, and Fact Checker) at each table to keep everyone engaged. I used strategies to help develop independent skills, such as how to make a consistent, realistic schedule and how to read large volumes of text efficiently. I also held longer large review sessions prior to tests. Similarly, I held office hours for my students where I was able to address any questions they had with the material. I was then promoted to Senior SI Leader, where I acted as a supervisor and was responsible for administrative duties and training. I earned an award for Long and Outstanding Service in this position.
After graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, I taught a study skills course to freshman biology students. I applied my skills as an SI Leader to hold classes on how to best study for the course and designed assignments meant to challenge students’ understanding of study skills. Not long after, I began work as a Senior Athletics Tutor for college student-athletes, where I coached students in various subjects, including biology, psychology, English, and sociology. In these smaller one-on-one sessions, I adjusted my tutoring style to my student's unique background and experience. I helped them review material, develop good study habits, and used activities to make studying more enjoyable. In total, I accrued over 4 years of tutoring experience.
I enjoy helping my students gain new study skills and am experienced in tailoring my approach to fit my student's learning style and assist in finding techniques that work best for them. I would be honored to help you improve your performance in class and look forward to seeing you in a lesson!
