I absolutely love teaching and tutoring all levels of Spanish, and my students' success is of the utmost importance to me. My goal is to help students gain confidence and comfort with the language, regardless of level. I have taught and tutored Spanish at both the university and high school levels for 20+ years, including language, culture and literature.
I have been scoring the AP Spanish Language Exam for the last 12+ summers, and have valuable materials and strategies to help AP students to improve their performance, scores, and knowledge of Spanish language and culture.
I started learning Spanish when I was 19 years old, and was able to reach a superior/bilingual level of proficiency. Unlike a native speaker, I know exactly what the challenges can be for learning all aspects of the language. I have developed a variety of approaches to help my students to improve pronunciation, better understand and use specific grammatical concepts, vastly increase their vocabulary, as well as gain a holistic comprehension and appreciation of the Spanish language and culture(s).
I work with students from high school Spanish 1 through AP Language / AP literature and culture, as well as university 101 through advance composition, literature and culture. I have lived and worked in Spain, Mexico and Argentina, and earned a Master's from the University of Michigan and a PhD in Spanish from Vanderbilt University.
I have experience teaching Business Spanish and Medical Spanish, and am certified in Medical and Legal Interpreting and Translation.
