I have been a special education teacher for 10 years and have completed my Masters Degree in Elementary education and special education, specializing in learning disabilities. I am a current Richmond Public Schools exceptional education teacher, and have been teaching in Richmond for 8 years. For two years I was a New York City public school teacher. I have mostly worked in inclusive classrooms with students with learning disabilities, Autism, emotional disabilities, intellectual disabilities and ADD/ADHD. We work in small groups and one on one, in these settings I made sure all my students felt comfortable and left feeling confident rather than defeated. I believe that building confidence in students is vital for their success.

I was a teacher at an alternative day school for students with behavioral and emotional disabilities. My classroom was 6 students and I created lesson plans that were parallel to the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL). Again, I made sure my students left feeling confident rather than defeated, and I made sure of that by choosing activities and lessons that they were able to engage, interact, and enjoy.

I have been trained in multiple, researched based phonics and reading programs. Many of these programs are made for students with dyslexia and other related learning disabilities. I also have training and experience working with students with ADD/ADHD and Autism. Through all my experiences in education I know one thing to be true, students need an advocate and I am that person for them. I am available for reading, science and social skills tutoring.
