Hi - my name is Sharon, and I am very interested in being your music tutor. I have been playing piano for more than 40 years, beginning lessons as a young child, and continuing in private classical training at Virginia Commonwealth University. For most of my career, I have worked full time in healthcare and mental health settings, and am now in a position to pursue music as my career. I have worked as a volunteer and professional musician in the Richmond area since the early 1980s. I have served as a church instrumentalist, performing solo on piano, keyboard, and organ. I have accompanied soloists, choirs, and small groups, and have also served as rhythm section in a band setting, and as keyboard in the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra.

I have taught students over the years as time has permitted, and am very excited that I will have more time to teach now. I love watching my students get excited about music, and learning to play in ways that they find satisfying. I hope that I will have the opportunity to help you reach your potential!

In addition to years of experience, I hold a Master Certificate in Theory, Harmony and Ear Training from the Berklee College of Music. I believe that my "real world" understand of keyboard, piano, and organ is an asset to any tutoring relationship. My years as a mental health professional has taught me how to help students set realistic goals for learning and development.

I have a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and for nearly 30 years have worked in healthcare and mental health settings, both as direct care staff and program supervisor. I am committed to helping any student who wants to learn, regardless of their challenges.

I am looking forward to meeting you! Please contact me so that we can discuss your goals, and how I can help you achieve them!
