A little about me: I taught for 10 years in public school and have teaching experience in 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Also, I am a licensed reading specialist for grades K-12. I’ve taught little kids to read and high school students to ace their AP exams; I’ve tutored college students and exceptional education students. I know EVERYONE can be successful in English/Language Arts with the right tools and support!
I’ve taught every level (AP, Honors, remedial—no matter your background or starting place, I will meet you there, just as I have for so many other students).
Academically, I earned a 3.97 undergrad GPA as an English major and 4.0 GPA in grad school earning my M.Ed. in Reading, Literacy, and Learning. I don’t define myself by my grades (and neither should you!), but they are a testament to my hard work and mastery of the English language and pedagogy.
My approach is as follows: I get to know YOU, my student. Together we reflect on your strengths, your learning preferences, your areas of growth, and your goals. As we work together, I continually use informal assessments and comprehension checks to gauge student mastery of content; I always pivot and tailor instruction as needed to meet stated goals. I’ve got a lot proven tools in my toolbox!
I teach students concrete, relevant strategies and techniques they can take away from each session to tackle similar assignments or situations in the future. My techniques are rooted in research and are evidence-based, and I keep abreast of best practices in the ELA field.
Perhaps most importantly, I approach each student with warmth, kindness, honesty, and integrity— you can’t learn from someone you don’t like AND trust!
