Physics and Math Tutor for High School and College Students

Hi! I'm Ben, an Engineering Mechanics graduate from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2024. After graduating, I worked in a nuclear fusion research laboratory in the UW–Madison Physics Department, where I applied advanced mathematics and engineering to real-world scientific problems.

I've studied calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, complex analysis, and advanced physics courses, but I especially enjoy teaching first-year calculus. One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring is helping students transform calculus from a mysterious "black box" into a practical toolbox for solving problems. If I can help you see calculus as a useful tool rather than another obstacle, you'll be well prepared to succeed in science, engineering, and beyond!

During my first three semesters of college, I tutored high school math and physics students at a nearby community center after school. I worked one-on-one with students who had missed significant class time or otherwise fallen behind, meeting with each student three to five times a week and covering several days' worth of material during each session. To make this manageable, we focused on the key skills and problem-solving strategies students needed for exams. Using this approach, I helped four students raise failing grades (below 60%) to Cs or higher.

Later, I tutored college math and engineering students for two semesters. Most sessions resembled office hours, where students brought homework problems they were struggling with, and we worked through them in small groups. Around exam time, I reviewed the topics students found most challenging and created review sessions and extra practice problems. Students who regularly attended these sessions excelled in their classes and often went on to apply their skills in advanced courses.
