Hi, I'm Stephanie! I graduated from James Madison University with a Master of Arts in Teaching and was the 2021 Teacher of the Year for my school! I am a certified elementary teacher with 13 years of teaching experience, including 7 years as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher and I have recently been trained in the Science of Reading.
Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to work with students from diverse backgrounds and at many different skill levels. I have experience working with struggling readers, language learners, students with ADHD, and specific learning disabilities. I’ve taught every grade level from Kindergarten through 5th grade and have taught all subject areas across the various grade levels. My greatest passions are helping students become confident readers and also helping English Language Learners become confident in their reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills.
My tutoring sessions are personalized to each student's unique strengths and needs. I know that every child learns differently, so I take the time to build a relationship with each student and understand how they learn best. My goal is to create a positive, encouraging environment where children feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and celebrating their progress. I use engaging, age-appropriate activities to keep students motivated while providing explicit instruction that builds the foundational skills they need to become successful readers and communicators.
I am so excited to work with your child to help them meet their goals!!
