Hey, I'm John! I graduated summa cum laude from William & Mary with degrees in Mathematics and Chinese. I have over five years of experience tutoring math, both in one-on-one and group settings. Hey, I'm John! I graduated summa cum laude from William & Mary with degrees in Mathematics and Chinese. I have over five years of experience tutoring math, both in one-on-one and group settings. Most of my experience is in teaching SAT/ACT math, Calculus I & II, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and a range of other undergraduate-level math courses. I primarily tutor high school students, college undergraduates, and adult learners, including those that are returning to math after time away from school.

One of the reasons I developed a passion for mathematics is that I had instructors who took the time to break down difficult concepts and made them intuitive. This is what I focus on in my tutoring sessions. Instead of just memorizing procedures, I help students understand what a problem is really asking, why a method works, and how different concepts fit together. This approach has helped my students improve their test scores, prepare for future math courses, and, most importantly, come to see math as something that is coherent, useful, and interesting.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I graduated summa cum laude from William & Mary with a degree in Mathematics and have over five years of tutoring experience. I help students prepare for SAT and ACT Math by building strong intuition for the underlying concepts, not just drilling formulas or shortcuts. My goal is to help students build confidence under timed test conditions, improve their speed, and approach the exam with a clear strategy.
Actuarial Science

Actuarial Science

I am currently pursuing the ACAS credential and have passed the preliminary actuarial exams with high marks. My math background has given me a strong foundation in probability, financial mathematics, calculus, and the kind of careful problem-solving these exams require. I know actuarial exam material can feel dense and mechanical at first, so I try to make the ideas feel intuitive rather than just drilling formulas. My goal is to help students understand what each problem is really asking, build efficient habits, and approach the exams with more confidence.
Calculus

Calculus

I graduated summa cum laude from William & Mary with a degree in Mathematics and have over five years of experience tutoring Calculus I, II, and III. I really enjoy tutoring calculus because it is one of the first math classes where students really start to see how powerful math can be. My goal is to make calculus feel less like a pile of formulas and more like a connected subject that actually makes sense. I focus on clear explanations, intuition, and guided problem-solving so students understand not only how to get the answer, but why the method works.
General Music

General Music

I have been DJ'ing part-time for many years and have hands-on experience setting up live music events. I've been running my own techno parties for quite some time, and am knowledgeable about signal flow, gain staging, and how the technical side of audio actually affects what people hear. My goal is to help beginners understand the setup clearly and discover how they can express themselves on the decks.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I graduated summa cum laude from William & Mary with a degree in Mathematics and have over five years of tutoring experience. I enjoy tutoring linear algebra because it is a subject where abstract ideas become much easier once students can picture what is happening geometrically. I take the time to help students see matrices not just as arrays of numbers, but as transformations that move, stretch, rotate, and organize space. My goal is to make linear algebra feel coherent and intuitive, so students can approach both computational and proof-based problems with more confidence.
Linux

Linux

I use the Linux terminal all day, every day for programming, coursework, and technical projects. Over time, Linux has become my main environment for writing code, managing files, working with remote machines, and solving practical computer problems. I help students understand Linux in a hands-on way, with an emphasis on building real fluency rather than memorizing commands. My goal is to make students comfortable using Linux as a practical tool for programming, school, and technical work.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I graduated summa cum laude from William & Mary with a degree in Mathematics and have over five years of tutoring experience. I take the time to help students build real intuition for pre-algebra, so they understand why each method works instead of just memorizing steps. I focus on making math feel clear, manageable, and engaging through patient explanation, guided practice, and problems that connect ideas together. My goal is to help students become more confident problem-solvers and feel prepared for Algebra I and future math classes.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I graduated summa cum laude from William & Mary with a degree in Mathematics and have over five years of tutoring experience. I enjoy tutoring pre-calculus because it is often the point where math starts to feel a lot more connected. I take the time to help students understand what the formulas and graphs are really saying, instead of treating each problem like a trick to memorize. My goal is to make pre-calculus feel clearer, more intuitive, and more engaging, while preparing students to feel confident going into Calculus.
SAT Math

I help students prepare for SAT and ACT Math by building strong intuition for the underlying concepts, not just drilling formulas or shortcuts.
