I am a mathematics student at Virginia Commonwealth University, completing a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in statistics. My coursework spans a wide range of quantitative subjects, including nonparametric statistics, statistical data science, regression analysis, and applied consulting using advanced analytics. I have also been accepted into VCU’s Ph.D. program in Systems Modeling and Analysis, so mathematics and statistics are not just subjects I have studied but fields I am actively building a career in.
My teaching experience comes from serving as an undergraduate teaching assistant for MATH 139 at VCU, as well as working as a classroom assistant supporting students through coursework in a university setting. In both roles, I have worked one on one and in small group settings with college-aged students, helping them move from confusion to genuine understanding. My approach centers on meeting students where they are. I ask questions before I explain, because figuring out where someone is stuck is more than half the work. From there, I focus on building intuition first and formalism second, so that students are not just memorizing steps but actually understanding why things work.
As a first-generation college student myself, I know what it feels like to encounter material that seems designed to exclude you. That experience shapes how I tutor. I believe every student deserves to feel capable and welcome in a math or science classroom, regardless of their background or how long it takes them to grasp something. I am patient, I do not make students feel bad for not knowing something, and I genuinely care whether the concept lands. I am most confident tutoring algebra, precalculus, statistics, and introductory college mathematics, and I am committed to making that material accessible to any student willing to put in the effort.
