Hello! My name is Troy. I have been teaching, tutoring, and mentoring students for over 25 years in history, sociology, political science, religious studies, and other humanities-based subjects. I have earned a B.A. in Religious Studies and an M.A. in History. While completing my graduate degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, my thesis was awarded with distinction and was subsequently published in book form. I have also taken numerous graduate courses in sociology and criminology. For 10 plus years, I worked as an Adjunct Instructor at Virginia Union University and Brightpoint Community College, teaching Introductory Sociology and related courses to freshman and sophomore-level students. As a classroom instructor, I have worked with traditional college students, adult learners, and students returning to school after a hiatus.
I am a tutor who helps break down reading material, build strong thesis statements, organize research, and edit written work for clarity and argumentation. I don't edit students’ papers; I teach students how to learn the material and improve their own skillset. Once they understand how to analyze the information, they gain the confidence they need to excel in college. I work very well with students who feel inundated with large course assignments, extensive research projects, or even graduate-level work.
