Hi, I'm Destiny! I graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.A. in English and minors in creative writing, professional writing & editing, and psychology. I now work full-time at a nonprofit where writing—whether it be drafting donor communications or copy for social media—is still a big aspect of my day-to-day work. I've had a love of writing my whole life, but it wasn't until high school that I found joy in tutoring my peers as a tutor at the writing center. This continued into my undergraduate experience where I worked as a writing center consultant for three years. During my experience there, I learned that collaboration and autonomy are some of the most important aspects of a tutor-tutee relationship. It is my job to ensure that the tutee knows that they have ample support and resources while also being empowered during their unique and personal writing journey. It is important that their time with me does not result only in a stronger paper but leads to increased confidence in themselves as a writer.
I have experience working with students on analytical and persuasive essays, personal statements, creative writing pieces, scientific reports, and more. From brainstorming to proofreading, I have assisted students and peers with every step of the writing process. I have experience working with high school, undergraduate, and graduate students both in person and over zoom. Additionally, I have also led workshops of up to 10 people regarding different types of writing and the overall writing process
I have missed tutoring in the three years since graduating, and I am eager to be a resource to those who need it. I want people to walk away from their sessions with me feeling more capable and confident than they did when they first walked in. I will strive to meet students where they are and be the help that they need. I am quick to respond and excited to get back into the tutoring world!
