Hi everyone, I’m a licensed high school math teacher with 16 years of experience, and I am currently teaching at Godwin High School. I have taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-calc, and Probability & Statistics at the honors and non-honors level. I have a deep understanding of the standards that students are expected to learn, as well as a vast library of resources to draw from that I have created over the years. I also have years of experience teaching in collab classes and differentiating for students with special needs. I also teach video game programming and produce electronic music, which I use to show students fun, real-world applications of math.

I specialize in helping students who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or discouraged to finally understand math in a clear, confidence-building way. Math anxiety is an extremely common roadblock to success, and identifying and reducing it is an important part of my teaching method.

I am available for in person or virtual sessions.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have been teaching high school math since 2009. I taught a yearlong Algebra 1 course for four of those years. I also taught Algebra 1 in summer school for two years. I have a large library of resources to draw from that I have created over the years, as well as differentiated materials for students with special needs such as chunking (breaking complex problems into smaller and more manageable steps), graphic organizers, flowcharts, and step by step instructions for solving different types of problems. I work on diminishing math anxiety by teaching students that they should not be ashamed of their mistakes, but instead should have a growth mindset. I give them strategies to analyze their errors and learn from their mistakes. I also train them in how to think about math and problem solve.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have been teaching high school math since 2009. I have taught Algebra 2 at both the Honors and Academic level for 8 of these years.
Geometry

Geometry

I have taught high school Geometry at both the Honors and Academic level for the past 16 years (currently at Godwin High). Geometry is my favorite subject to teach because it is so easy to connect to art and beauty, and I love showing students how simple math rules can create complex and beautiful patterns!
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have been teaching high school math since 2009. I have taught pre-calculus for two of those years. I have a large library of resources to draw from that I have created over the years, as well as differentiated materials for students with special needs such as chunking (breaking complex problems into smaller and more manageable steps), graphic organizers, flowcharts, and step by step instructions for solving different types of problems. SAT Math

SAT Math

I have always been a great test taker, and scored a 1440 out of 1600 on the SAT when I was in high school in 2004. I have been a high school math teacher for the past 16 years, and know everything there is to know about successful test taking strategies as I have guided thousands of students to success. I have a large library of resources, strategies, and tips and tricks that I am excited to share with your student!

Great first lesson!

My son has had one session with Matt and it went really well. They were able to review a lot in an hour. Matt sent a thorough follow up message with suggestions of multiple sites for continued practice to help reinforce what they reviewed in the session.
