I’m Suraj, a final year medical student who recently matched to a competitive surgical specialty. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Richmond with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Over the past eight years, my tutoring experience spans a wide range of learners, from high school students preparing for standardized tests to medical students navigating the demands of board exams and clinical training.
In medical school, I scored in the 99th percentile on USMLE Step 2. I serve as a peer tutor, working one-on-one with fellow medical students to help them succeed in preclinical coursework, shelf exams, and the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 exams. I have extensive experience breaking down complex medical concepts, identifying knowledge gaps, and helping students improve content mastery and exam strategy. Many of the students I’ve worked with have gone on to significantly improve their exam scores and feel more confident approaching challenging material. Prior to medical school, I tutored and mentored high school and college students, assisting with SAT, ACT, and MCAT preparation, as well as general college readiness and study skills. I have also helped teach EMT courses to college students and adult learners, which strengthened my ability to adapt my teaching style to different educational backgrounds and learning needs.
My tutoring approach is highly individualized and results-focused, especially for standardized exams. I strongly believe that success comes from actively working through practice questions together, learning how to think through problems, and developing a repeatable strategy rather than relying on memorization alone. During sessions, I emphasize reasoning skills, test-taking strategies, and pattern recognition while tailoring explanations to each student’s learning style. My goal is not only to help students perform well on their next exam, but also to empower them with skills they can use independently moving forward.
