Hello, my name is Emilie! As a former tutor, 8th grade English Language Arts teacher, and life-long educator with over 20 years of experience, I support students with basic literacy, writing, literature and reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, any other needs related to English! I specialize in developing interactive lessons that put students' learning styles, assets, and goals at the center of our work together.
Here's a little bit more about me: I started tutoring at age 18 through America Reads Tutoring Corps, where I worked with K-3rd grade students on literacy and reading comprehension. After graduating from University of Michigan with an English Language and Literature degree, I joined Teach For America and taught 8th grade English Language Arts for two years in South Texas (where I was certified by the Texas State Board of Education), then for another year at Instituto San Roberto in Monterrey, Mexico. After teaching, I got a Master's of Public Affairs in Policy Analysis, and started a career as a sustainability and resilience professional. Ever since, education has remained at the heart of everything I do, and my subsequent work has often included designing and facilitating curriculum for college students and adult professionals focused on resilience and sustainability.
