Hello perspective scholars! My name is Wilhelm V. and I am a Medical Doctor who is starting residency this year. My background from undergrad was a B.S. in Clinical Neuroscience with a second major in Clinical Psychology. I am a former ACE certified personal trainer.
I worked in tutoring throughout my education. In college I functioned as a tutor for the 300 and 400 level advanced neuroscience courses during my junior and senior years respectively. In medical school, I served as an Academic Enhancement Program and Peer Learning Group mentor. In the AEP, I would meet regularly with first year medical students and provide supplemental instruction on the weekly concepts that they would cover. I met with the same group of students and mentored them up to the end of that year. Some of the things that I covered in that program were: Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology In the PLG, I would mentor specifically on the topics that I felt were difficult for the students and that I would have an expertise in. I really appreciate how in the field of science the best way to learn is to problem solve critically for yourself and learn the pattern in the way that makes the most sense to you. Therefore, my approach is problem based learning and comprehensive approaches to systems. I want to have my students ask, "Why and how do these things work together." My typical lesson will be composed of practice questions where we will work through the question together and go through a guided answer, evaluating our process. At the end of my sessions, I offer content review for that day's material as a short "Lecture"
I have taught, as a professional tutor, college and graduate students, but I did offer some tutoring in high school to my peers. I have been professionally tutoring for 5 years and it has been a mix of in classroom with a group and individualized approaches. I feel comfortable amending myself to your needs. Thank you and hope to work with you!
