Hi, I’m Ana. I’m a native Portuguese speaker from Brazil with a bachelor’s degree in International Economic Relations from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and a master’s degree from Georgetown University, where I specialized in the Political Economy of Latin America.
I have taught Portuguese at three language institutes in the Washington, D.C. area, working with adult group classes, private students, and young learners. I also tutor Spanish and Portuguese for elementary students. My teaching experience includes beginner Portuguese, conversation practice, grammar review, pronunciation, reading, cultural activities, and personalized one-on-one lessons.
My approach is communicative, structured, and student-centered. I want students to speak from the beginning, but I also give clear explanations and guided practice so that they understand how the language works. I often use role plays, games, songs, visuals, daily routine activities, and real-life conversation tasks to make lessons engaging and practical.
My goal is to create a positive and safe learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and building confidence step by step.
