Randolph-Macon College (English and History)
My name is Kayla. I am a rising junior at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. At R-MC I am an English and a History Major as well as a Writing and Political Science minor. Additionally I am the Senior News Editor for The Yellow Jacket Newspaper. When I was in high school, I did some volunteer all-subject tutoring for an underclassman. We would work through math problems, construct sophisticated sentences and paragraphs, write music, work on biology, and build organization skills.
I love tutoring because helping people is a huge passion of mine. Knowledge is a powerful tool and learning should always be fun and loved. As a tutor I work towards helping people to fall in love with learning. Tutoring is such an important thing for students who are struggling with a subject. I myself have occasionally sought out a tutor and have found it to be incredibly helpful. As a tutor I hope to instill that same feeling in my students.
As an English/writing major and minor, I love writing and reading. I write a blog professionally and am an editor and writer for The Yellow Jacket Newspaper. Writing and reading have always been my passion, and I love to share my passion with others.
As a Residents Assistant at my college, I have a unique set of skill that help me to work well with all different types of people. Having a younger brother with a reading and writing IEP and learning disability has helped me gain learning/teaching skills that are conducive to people with all different learning capacities. Additionally, I have always loved children. The elementary level is a vital time in a child's development, making the job of a tutor or teacher very important. This also means that as a tutor or a teacher you are tasked with a lot of responsibility so that the child/children under your wing get the best experience they can get.
I can not wait to work with you! I can not wait to see what we learn together! My name is Kayla. I am a rising junior at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
