Hello! I'm a former science teacher based in the Southeast of Virginia. My background is in ecology and evolutionary biology, with a degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Hello! I'm a former science teacher based in the Southeast of Virginia. My background is in ecology and evolutionary biology, with a degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I went on to be a 6th grade science teacher on the east coast where ran a lively classroom full of labs, group projects, and diverse learning. The 6th grade curriculum is a bit of everything, from physics and water cycles, to astronomy and chemistry. Regardless which year or what subject, I've taken the college level class or taught it quite recently. I've been tutoring since college, sometimes to the other students in my classes! I love to connect science topics to our everyday lives: why your mirror fogs up in the bathroom, why paper towels work, and why pigeons are so much more common than hawks. Creativity and curiosity are the most important factors for a learning mind!
During my teaching career, I picked up lots of way to help learning of all styles. ADHD and autism should not be a barrier to getting great grades and understanding our world! I'm committed to helping a range of diverse learners, and accommodating your learning needs. I'm not a certified clinician, but I can suggest some ideas for learning more in the classroom too! I believe everyone should have a fair chance at success in our school system, and I'm excited to work with people on and off the spectrum.
I don't have a set curriculum, because everyone's needs are different and we will spend time getting to know each other before we plan out our lessons together. Let's figure out what works for you: from specific homework help to the 10,000-foot view of the topic.
Whether you're aiming for the top scores on AP/SAT tests, or you don't know why you've got to take a math class to begin with, I'm here to make math and science more than just memorization and boring flashcards. We'll build a framework for you to expand on topics you've already mastered and connect to ideas that are common sense. Hope to see you soon!
