Hello!! I am Keith and I have been in the field of education for over a decade. I am currently a math instructor at a school district in Virginia. I have taught Pre-Algebra for four years and Algebra I for five years. Before I became a classroom teacher, I tutored high school and middle school students in mathematics for two years. Most of the students that I encounter are HIGHLY capable of being successful in math, but they have to believe that they are capable before they can experience success in math. This can be the case with children AND adults.
For anyone seeking Test Prep, I have taken multiple certification exams and I have developed a process of test prep and test taking strategies that have increased my students' success in taking exams.
My teaching methodology is two-fold: First, I like to build on the strengths of each student in order to build confidence. Second, we will process each question piece by piece to ensure that the student understands what happens each step, and why.
Beyond math, I also help high school students with study skills and mentoring:
- Study skills: organization, note-taking, test preparation, and building a weekly routine that fits real life.
- Mentoring and relationship skills: confidence, communication, handling conflict, and getting along with teachers and peers.
Sessions are patient and judgment-free, and I am happy to share a short progress summary with parents.
