Hi!
My name is Z, and I am currently pursuing my M.A. in Religious Studies at the University of Denver, specializing in Sacred Texts, where I have maintained a 3.95 GPA. I earned my B.A. in Religious Studies and Women & Gender Studies from the University of Mary Washington in 2021. My academic background includes Christianity, biblical studies, world religions, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, gender and religion, and religious texts. I also completed substantial undergraduate coursework in psychology, including developmental, abnormal, personality, biological, and child psychology.
In addition to my academic background, I have several years of experience working in public education as both a substitute teacher and instructional assistant. I have worked with middle and high school students in classroom and individualized settings, including students with a variety of learning needs. These experiences taught me the importance of adapting explanations and teaching methods to the individual student rather than expecting every student to learn in the same way.
I am particularly interested in helping students with religious studies, psychology, reading, and writing. In reading and writing, I can support students with reading comprehension, textual analysis, research papers, thesis development, and writing mechanics, including outlining, organization, revision, academic voice, and argumentation. Whether you need help understanding a difficult reading, organizing your ideas for a paper, or strengthening a draft, my goal is to help make the material feel more manageable.
My approach to tutoring is collaborative and individualized. I like to break complex material into smaller, approachable pieces and work through it at a pace that makes sense for you. Rather than simply giving you an answer, I want to help you understand how to approach the material and develop strategies you can use independently in the future. I am excited to meet you and help you build confidence in your work and reach your academic goals!

Additionally, I have 5+ years of classroom experience as an Instructional Assistant/Paraprofessional for students with diverse educational needs.

Proofreading

As a graduate student pursuing my M.A. in Religious Studies at the University of Denver, proofreading and editing are integral to my academic scholarship. Throughout my undergraduate and graduate education, I have gained extensive interdisciplinary experience editing academic writing for grammatical accuracy, clarity, organization, and flow. My interdisciplinary academic background has allowed me to develop strong proofreading skills across various subjects, including Religious Studies, History, Psychology, and other humanities and social science disciplines. Furthermore, I have over five years of classroom experience as an instructional assistant and substitute teacher, where I have supported students with diverse academic abilities and learning needs.
Psychology

Psychology

During my undergraduate career at UMW, I completed extensive coursework in psychology, including subfields such as developmental psychology, abnormal psychology, personality psychology, biological psychology, and the psychology of exceptional children and youth. Additionally, my undergraduate studies gave me a particularly strong foundation in psychology, centered on development across the lifespan and across populations. Having worked in the classroom for 5+ years, I have applied these skills in real time across Advanced Placement, general education, and SPED.
Religion

Religion

Since Fall 2017, I have studied Religious Studies. At UMW, my studies centered on a feminist approach to different areas of religious studies, including courses such as Christianity, biblical studies, world religions, African American religions, Native American religions, religion and politics, gender and sexuality in religion, and Late Antique Christianity. I also completed two undergraduate theses for each of my majors [Religious Studies + Women & Gender Studies] entitled, "From Martyrdom to Asceticism: How Cultural Shifts in Late Antiquity Allowed for Women to Escape Gender, Sexually, and Reinforced Hypersexuality" and "Revisiting The Martyrdom (Passion) of Saints Perpetua and Felicity Through A New Framework: Critical Race Theory & Proto-Racism". At the University of Denver, I have expanded on ideas from the aforementioned works, and my areas of study now include: martyrdom/women/bodies; embodiment/suffering/Late Antiquity; and Early Christianity/New/Old Testament.
