I'm Beth! I've worked in museums doing history and archaeology research for 20 years and the favorite part of my job has always been teaching people about history. I've led student workshops, given talks to school groups, taught as an assistant at an archaeological field school, and written website and app content for audiences of every age and background. I’m excited to work with students in a different way through tutoring and to help them gain a better understanding of historical events, strong research writing, and preparing for exams.
I graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia with a double major in History and Anthropology. My focus was, and continues to be, early American History, from the Contact Period up to the Civil War. I also hold an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, passing with high marks on my exams, and a certification in Statistics with R from Duke. For 15 years, I worked as a professional archaeologist at a historical museum before changing to digital engagement and web content development. My professional experiences have honed my research, writing, and editing skills. I loved learning French through the IB program and now maintain an intermediate level of proficiency.
I look forward to working with students in 8th grade or higher in the areas of History, Anthropology, and French. In addition, I would love to work with students on improving their writing or test-taking skills, especially in preparation for IB or AP exams. I prefer to meet students over video conferencing.
