I'm a second-year PhD student at Old Dominion University, where my research focuses on environmental/analytical chemistry. I earned my B.S. in Biochemistry from Lafayette College, and before that, I took 11 AP courses in high school, including AP Chemistry. That means I've been on both sides of these exact subjects: first as the student taking the exams, and now as an instructor teaching the material.
Last year, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for General Chemistry, where I ran recitation sections and led laboratory sessions for undergraduate students. That experience showed me exactly where students tend to get stuck, not just with the content itself, but with the small gaps in reasoning that turn a seemingly simple stoichiometry or equilibrium problem into a frustrating one.
In recitation, my approach was always to slow down build on existing chemistry knowledge and apply logic from the ground up rather than just blindly following and memorizing steps. That's the same approach I plan to bring to one-on-one tutoring. I want to help students build real conceptual understanding, the "why" behind the formulas and mechanisms, so material actually sticks past the next test or exam, whether that's for an AP course or a college-level class.
I'm looking forward to tutoring AP Chemistry and college General Chemistry 1 & 2. Whether you're a high schooler working toward a strong AP exam score or a college student trying to get through gen chem, I'm patient, direct, and very used to fielding every kind of confused question, since that was my job for a full year of recitation sections. If you're stuck on a concept, behind on a problem set, or prepping for an exam, send me a message and let's put together a plan to get you where you need to be!
