Hi my name is teacher Stephanie, and I specialize in Early Literacy and in teaching English Language Learners. I am so excited to meet you and to help you improve your literacy skills. First, I'll tell you a little about me. I have a BA in Communications and a Graduate Certification in Early Childhood Education and I've done additional post graduate work in teaching English Language Learners. I taught for many years in the classroom, and more recently I've been teaching English Language Learners, who are mainly adult professionals, online.
When I first meet a student, I will ask about their goals and assess where they are in their journey. I will also ask about their interests and get a feel for their learning style. From there, I can plan engaging lessons tailored to the needs of the student. I have loads of patience and I see mistakes as a part of the learning process, and they let me know what we need to work on.
I can help with vocabulary and oral language development, learning letters and sounds, letter formation, blending and segmenting words, and using decoding strategies as well as reading comprehension and writing skills. For kids, I try to make learning fun. We might sing songs or act out letters. For adults, just beginning to learn English, we may work on some of these skills too, but in a different manner. For example, we might read a passage and then work on vocabulary and grammar, as well as any other concepts they don't yet understand.
