My name is Laila, and I graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology. I am also a former education major. I know how frustrating it is when classes feel boring, are too fast-paced, or don't "click". I'm familiar with working with short attention spans and try to make tutoring sessions engaging and interesting. I typically start by asking if you need help with a specific concept, or if you need help keeping up with the class as a whole. I will tailor my approach from there and go at your pace. Lesson planning and session lengths can be adjusted based on preference, progress, and the student's individual needs. I specialize in elementary spelling, grammar, and reading; middle school grammar and essay writing; and high school essay writing. I've also previously tutored psychology, sociology, and social studies/history.
I have 4 years of language arts-specific tutoring experience, where I worked at afterschool programs with students who needed extra help keeping up with their classroom. Outside of tutoring, I work as an in-home mental health counselor for adolescents and young adults. Pre-university, I was placed in Advanced English and was inducted into the University of Cambridge AICE program. I also work with rising teachers to prepare them for Praxis exams. With my personal experience, expertise in language arts, and background in child psychology, my goal is to help students develop a love for learning.
I will always guarantee fast responses and encourage you to reach out with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson. Looking forward to helping you succeed!
