Hi my name is Katie! I graduated from the University of Virginia with my M.A. in Religious Studies, and I have a B.A. from the University of Florida in Anthropology. I am a member of the American Association of Religion and Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society. My particular research field is American studies and American religion. I have a provisional teaching license in social studies for grades 6th-12th.
I have taught summer school for middle schoolers, subbed and long term subbed for all grade levels, and I taught this past year at a Montessori school. I have tutored since high school where I was a member of Mu Alpha Theta which is a math honor society, I was president of my thespian society. My primary teaching experience is from the classroom, but I have helped students in and out of the school.
My previous teaching and tutoring experience has involved helping students understand difficult material by breaking it down step by step and adapting my approach to the student’s learning style. I try to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence. My approach focuses on identifying where a student is struggling, explaining the material in simpler terms, practicing together, and gradually helping the student become more independent.
