I'm a parent of three grown children, all of whom have been or are teaching now -- and I'm one of the ones who helped them with their homework! I've made a living as a video writer and producer, so I know the English language, proper grammar and the visual arts. I'm a pretty voracious reader, so I'm familiar with much of the literature that young students will encounter, and probably a lot more besides. Additionally, I've been a choral musician most of my life, have composed quite a few choral pieces that have been performed by choirs in the area, and I'm pretty knowledgeable about music theory.
Although, I've never made my living as a teacher, I've often acted as a mentor for young and inexperienced workers in my field, and they all have told me I'm a good one-on-one teacher, with a logical approach to imparting knowledge. In those cases, I've tended to use a question-and-answer approach to encourage critical thinking to help the student think through the subject matter on his or her own. In those cases, I've organized the subject matter in logical steps, making sure the student has mastered each step along the way. I'd love to help any young student in the same way.
