Hello, I am Marilyn and would love to help you excel in your studies!!
I received a BA in Latin from Boston University and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Then, I was excited to be accepted at the University of Michigan Horace Rackham graduate school to complete an MA in Latin and also be given the opportunity to act as a teaching fellow for college freshmen. In moves around the country with my husband, I have taught in Virginia, Vermont, New York, North Carolina, Florida, and Michigan. I have been certified in all of the states in which I taught and hold current certification in MA. I also am well-versed in Roman mythology and ancient geography and love to share that knowledge with my students whenever possible.
After teaching Latin for many years, I worked and taught in elementary school reading programs for nine years. I have taught elementary, middle school and high school students and enjoy all levels. I tutored periodically through those years. Now, for the last five years, I have tutored online about 15 hours a week. I love tutoring online because I have had students from all across the country and even Canada.
You will find me punctual and prepared. For my reading and writing students especially, I send materials by email a day or two before each session for parents to print out so that the student and I can work together during the session. I try to vary the content of each session so that the student maintains attention on what we are doing. For the English students, I include, reading, writing spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. I use crossword puzzles to reinforce spelling and vocabulary and give the students a little change. They usually love them.
For my Latin students, I use as my curriculum frame a textbook of my choice or one which the student is using currently in school. I add extra practice material as needed.
I require a 24-hour cancellation notice because I prepare completely for each student.
I look forward to having you as my student!
