Hi, my name is Rachel! I attend the University of Virginia, where I am majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Philosophy. I am on the Dean's List with a 3.9 GPA. In high school, I realized that my teachers had an enormous impact on whether I enjoyed a subject, thought I was good at it, and decided to pursue it long-term. In fact, I attribute my passion for neuroscience to two of my high school teachers, whose passion for teaching students about their fields inspired me. My mission is to be this role model in my students' lives, inspiring them to love learning.

One thing that makes me unique is that I love taking tests. I enjoyed taking the SAT, and the 1570 that I earned reinforced that. I know that many students find the SAT stressful and may think they aren't "good" test-takers. Another goal of mine is to help my students genuinely enjoy test-taking like I do and believe that they are good at taking tests. I focus on helping my students improve upon their weaknesses, whether that means working on practice problems to improve intuitive understanding of a question type or working to improve confidence in the testing environment.

I have been teaching and tutoring a variety of subjects for over 5 years. For 4 years, I taught as an assistant teacher in grades K-3, where I focused on cultivating my students' learning styles and love of learning. I also tutored high school 9th grade Biology and AP Biology students, where I planned lessons based on my students' understanding and academic performance, provided regular feedback, and focused on improving test-taking and learning strategies.

I tutor students from elementary school to college. I emphasize supporting my students' learning styles to help them love learning, develop their understanding of content, and grow their confidence in the classroom. As an educator, I consider it important to incorporate feedback into my tutoring approach to give my students the best experience possible. I welcome you to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!

MCAT

MCAT

I am an undergraduate at UVA on the premedical track. I took the MCAT in 2026 and earned a 519 (96th percentile), with the following distribution: 129-131-130-129. In my tutoring, I focus on high-yield concepts through the lens of the individual student's strengths and weaker concepts. My goal is for my students to develop a true understanding of the concepts tested on the MCAT and for their scores to reflect this high-level understanding. Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems (Chem/phys): Chemistry is less intuitive to me than most of the other subjects covered by the MCAT. To score well in this section, I focused on understanding when and why each formula was used. I work with my students to understand the "why" behind each concept and identify important conceptual trends. Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS): Of all the sections of the MCAT, CARS is my personal favorite--a feeling that is certainly not universal. I find that many students spend lots of time on each passage without fully understanding the key details, which is often an issue of not knowing what to focus on. In my tutoring, I focus on helping my students identify strategies to work through the passages in the most efficient manner while developing a more comprehensive understanding of the text. Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems (Bio/biochem): This section is very wide-reaching with the concepts it covers. Similarly to the Chem/phys section, I work with my students to help them understand the reasoning behind each concept. By being able to explain the "why" that drives a biological process, my students are able to reason through a problem through logical steps that help them derive the correct answer. While some memorization is absolutely necessary for this section, I help my students strategize about the most important information to know and be able to explain. Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior (Psych/soc): While this section is overlooked by many as the easiest s
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I am an undergraduate at UVA studying to earn a B.A. in Neuroscience. My program studies the nervous system from an interdisciplinary perspective and discusses neuroscience from the cellular and molecular level to the cognitive level. I was first introduced to neuroscience by my high school neurobiology teacher, who taught me about the basics of the nervous system with a passion that inspired my own love of the inner workings of the brain. I currently serve as a TA for the Fundamentals of Neuroscience course at UVA and focus on helping students understand the details of foundational concepts and develop a passion for this field. While I specialize in cellular neuroscience, I have excelled in every neuroscience course I have taken. I also perform research in a laboratory investigating the role of a particular oncogene (cancer-causing gene) on glioblastoma. I care deeply about learning more about this kind of brain cancer in an effort to develop an effective treatment. Watching others in the lab, I have been inspired by the way they work together to advance our knowledge of neuroscience. I am fascinated by the complexity of the brain and how such a massive number of neural components work together to produce consciousness and intelligence. Even more so, seeing how we are impacted when something goes wrong in that system has made me incredibly passionate about this field. In my tutoring, I aim to help my students understand both the basics and the intricate details of the nervous system. As in all of my tutoring, I hope to inspire a similar love of neuroscience in my students by showing them the beauty of how billions of neurons work together to create our brilliantly functional minds.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

My son needed help with high school Algebra and also test-taking tactics. He would make 'silly' errors at the end of tests. Rachel had helped him dramatically both with the Algebra math concepts and also with having more confidence taking tests. We have been working with Rachel for a while now and will continue to work with her. I highly recommend Rachel if you are in need of a tutor that will deliver results.

Great and Organized Tutor

Today we went over a practice test that I took and focused on the concepts I struggled on. I feel that Rachel is very organized and efficient in how she teaches. We waste no time on concepts that I already understand and target the ones I still need to work on. For me this is Standard English convention questions and Rachel does a great job in explaining how to approach these questions and gives me tips and tricks to hint me towards the right answer.

Thorough and knowledgeable tutor

Rachel helped my son catch up in Algebra after being out sick for a while. Since catching up he has continued his sessions with her because she is thorough and teaches him things that his teacher doesn't teach in class. She is also very responsive to messages to set up or adjust times for sessions. We definitely plan to keep working with her!

Great and Organized Tutor

Rachel has been helping me with SAT reading for a month now and I feel I have improved greatly. We have gone over all the possible SAT questions so I know the best way to approach each one of them. Rachel also explains why it is the right answer very well which gives me a better idea on what to look for in future questions. She is a great and patient tutor.
