I am a current second grade teacher with Loudoun County Public Schools and have over five years of classroom teaching experience. I hold a bachelor’s degree in special education from James Madison University and a master’s degree in elementary education from University of Virginia. I have also completed graduate-level coursework toward becoming a reading specialist through George Mason University. My background has prepared me to support students in phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension, as well as elementary math aligned to Virginia SOL standards.
As a current classroom teacher, I have a strong understanding of the Virginia SOL curriculum and the specific skills students need to succeed in a public school setting. I use a structured, research-based approach to instruction, including explicit phonics teaching, guided practice, and targeted support based on each student’s needs. I have experience working with a wide range of learners in whole group, small group, and one-on-one settings, and I focus on building both skill mastery and confidence.
During tutoring sessions, I create a supportive and engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking academic risks. I tailor each lesson to the student’s goals, whether that is strengthening foundational skills or improving grade-level performance. I also communicate with parents to share progress and strategies that can be reinforced at home. My goal is to set students up for success by building strong academic foundations and a positive attitude toward learning.
