Hello! My name is Anushey and I have 5+ years of tutoring experience K-12 in person and online, experience working with learning disabilities, and a love for seeing my students grow their confidence and skills. My educational background includes a Bachelors from the University of Virginia in English Literature and Cognitive Science. When I applied to UVA, I scored a 34 on the ACT and 5's and 4's on several AP tests including AP Biology, Chemistry, BC Calculus, U.S. History, World History, English Lit, and English Lang. When I started my degree program, I discovered a love for reading and an appreciation for how our minds tend to work and what communicative techniques we best respond to. I graduated from my undergraduate program with a 3.75 GPA.
Prior to beginning university, I worked at an Early Leaners Assistant at a Kumon Math and Reading Center where I graded work, tracked progress, and provided one-on-one support for students creating foundational reading skills or correcting their assignments. During the same time frame, I coached developmentally disabled children and adults in sports like bowling and basketball. In this role, I gained further insight into new ways of thinking and the importance of affirming the baby steps towards my mentees' goals. Since, I have had 50+ tutoring clients, both one-on-one and in small groups from all grade levels. I believe routine practice with a creative-problem solving approach and gentle attitude makes a world of a difference for students of all backgrounds and ages. All of us struggle with confidence when learning something new, so my flexibility and patience are necessary skills in building up a student's growth mindset while learning new and tricky concepts.
