I'm Finn! During the school year, I work full time as a high school humanities teacher for a Christian classical school in the NOVA area. Before working there, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Patrick Henry College with a degree in Government. I have a passion both for learning and for teaching, particularly in three areas: public speaking, political science, and Latin.

My experience with public speaking began in high school, where I competed in team policy debate and multiple other speach categories. In college, I continued my public speaking journey by competing in moot court and mock trial. My junior year, I was the captain of the Mock Trial Gold Team. My senior year, I placed 6th in the nation for Moot Court. Although I like competing, the best part of public speaking for me is helping others. Now, I officially coach Moot Court for PHC and unofficially "coach" my four younger brothers who are still competing in public speaking either in college or high school.

My passion for political science began in college. As I was reading Plato's Republic my sophomore year, I fell in love with the world of ideas and how these ideas have changed history. Because of this, I majored in government with a concentration in political theory. This gave me the opportunity to read thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, Burke, Tocqueville, Locke, and Rousseau. Reading these works have changed the way I see the world, and I still continue to read more in my spare time.

I began learning Latin when I was 10 years old. As I continued to study the language through high school and into college, my appreciation and understanding of the language only grew. I now officially teach introductory Latin for a classical school during the school year. I believe that many students who attempt to study Latin end up failing because they lack the motivation and discipline to learn a "dead" language. This is why as I try to make learning Latin as fun and as relevant as possible to my students.
