I have a BFA in Fine Art from the University of Texas at Austin, which I received in 1988. I did coursework in painting, printmaking, and art history. I earned my teaching certificate in Elementary Education and Bilingual/ESL Education by way of alternative certification. I taught in the Austin Independent School Division for 6 years as a classroom bilingual teacher working with grades 2 through 5. Then I moved to Nebraska and taught in a rural two-room school in the Sandhills at Antioch....

I taught in the Austin Independent School Division for 6 years as a classroom bilingual teacher working with grades 2 through 5. Then I moved to Nebraska and taught in a rural two-room school in the Sandhills at Antioch. There I worked with individual students in 5th through 8th grades, one-on-one. After two years I was able to secure a position in Hemingford where three other teachers and I were asked to start a self-contained middle school. I was responsible for Language Arts and Math instruction. When my wife and I moved to Virginia, I used my endorsement in Gifted Education to work as a Gifted Resource Teacher in the Albemarle County Public School District. Subsequently, I taught for seven years in Goochland County Public Schools, where I used my endorsement in Art Education. I retired from classroom teaching in 2014.
Since then, I have taught classes in Botanical Illustration at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, taught small groups in watercolor and drawing, and taught lessons in Botany and Plant Propagation both in person and online.
I enjoy working with students and helping them reach their goals. Teaching has been a great joy and I look forward to contributing as I can in the future.
