My name is Nisha! I graduated with a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling and have two years of experience working in clinical genetics with pediatric and adult patients. As a clinical genetic counselor, I had to explain complex genetic information to individuals of a variety of backgrounds. I would explain information to patients and families of all ages. Prior to graduate school, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in Biology. As an undergraduate student, I tutored peers that were first-generation college students in Biology, Genetics, and Statistics. I tutored 3 individuals in one-on-one sessions.
I believe it is important to utilize a variety of teaching methods to ultimately find what works best for the student. I have a flexible approach to tutoring and want to make sure we work towards meeting the student's goals. Although an individualized approach is helpful for each student, I believe repetition and practice is very helpful. I also find it helpful to explain topics in a variety of methods (verbally, visual aids, etc.). My goal is for students to feel confident in the information. I can also help with tips regarding time management and study schedules. Any insight from parents is also helpful!
