Hello! I am in my third year at James Madison University, and I am an elementary education major. I have about 7 years of experience working with children, and about 3 years of experience of tutoring children. I have also worked as a swim instructor at Kids First Swim School for 3 years, which has to taught me the different ways each kid learn, and how every child is capable.

When I was in elementary I struggled at reading, so when I decided to become a teacher, I wanted to learn how to teach the children who are like me. I do not want my students to guess words based on the picture, I want them to be able to decode words. By decoding they will be able to improve in reading fluency and comprehension.
I am currently in a college class that teaches us to use phonics to improve a child's reading and decoding skills. When using phonics, it gives the child the tools to be able to decide words the have never seen before.
This was another subject that I struggled with, where I could not hear all the letters or I would mix up letters. This goes back to phonics, if you know the noises the letters can make, then you can put the word together.
I am available on Tuesdays, Fridays and weekends.
