Hi! My name is Ian. I am a graduate of Emory University with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.A. in English. I’m passionate about helping students master chemistry, biology, and English at all levels. I can assist from introductory courses to college-level material. I have experience tutoring in high school and I was a T.A. in college. I enjoy making challenging topics clear and approachable.
I have an extensive background in Chemistry and biology. I have worked in 3 labs including a fellowship with the National Cancer Institute. In terms of teaching, I prioritize mastering the concept and attempting a breadth of practice problems. I find it very useful to challenge my students to not only do the problems but to teach the material back to me. In the process, I will offer correction on areas I find they may be lacking. This allows a student to develop a mastery of the subject and find any small areas where they need improvement. I consistently use this technique for my own studies and have found tremendous success with my students.
In addition to science, I have a passion for English and writing! I served as president of a research magazine in college and of my high school newspaper. These experiences allowed me to mentor many developing writers. I take great satisfaction in helping students refine their writing skills and express their ideas with clarity, cohesion, and confidence.
